For our project, all students are required to construct a write up on their research. This write up will be 1 to 3 pages long.

What is a Thesis Statement?

A Thesis statement is the overall main idea or point you are trying to get across to the reader.

A simple formula to help you construct a thesis:

“SUBJECT + YOUR OPINION = THESIS”

An example:

Subject:

Immigration

Opinion:

Question to ask: What do I think about illegal immigration?

I feel that we should allow them to become citizens.

Thesis statement:

Overall, I feel that all illegal immigrants should be granted quick citizenship by the government.

Overall, I feel that all illegal immigrants (subject) should be granted quick citizenship by the government (opinion).
